We provide a holistic approach to building strong, healthy bones.

A holistic approach to building strong, healthy bones

Are you at risk for bone loss, or have you recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia? Or perhaps you have seen how bone loss has crippled your grandmother, mother or sister, and you fear the same might happen to you someday. You are not alone; over 25 million Americans suffer the consequences of bone loss every year. Though it is typical to lose some bone mass as you age, osteoporosis is not an inevitable side effect to aging! It is a silent disease process and there are natural ways to keep your bones strong and healthy so you can continue living an active life as you age.

Bone loss can occur from many systemic problems, like chronic inflammation, and as a result of many other diseases and certain medications. Maintaining and improving bone health requires nourishing and supporting the human body as a whole. The BONES Method is the comprehensive and holistic approach that can help you have strong, healthy bones for life!

The BONES Method™ is a targeted and individualized approach that will help you achieve stronger bones & overall better health!

Balanced nutrition

Balanced nutrition is essential for bone health. Not only is adequate calcium necessary, but also foods high in other minerals such magnesium and boron, and vitamins such as vitamin K and D.

Eating a balanced acid-alkaline diet can help to reduce bone loss. A high acid promoting diet can cause calcium to be leached from your bones and excreted in the urine. It is important to avoid other foods that promote calcium excretion such as sugar, salt, alcohol and soft drinks.

Optimize digestion

Optimize digestion to maximize nutrient absorption. Digestion is a critical component of bone health. You need to be able to adequately digest your food so that you can absorb the nutrients necessary to maintain and improve bone health.

It is important to address all underlying digestive issues that may be contributing to impaired digestion, malabsorption and inadequate utilization of nutrients required for building and maintaining healthy bones.

Nurture

Nurture the soul to reduce stress and promote sleep. Stress increases two hormones called cortisol and adrenaline which can cause bone loss and inhibit bone formation.

Adequate sleep is necessary for the body to rebuild and repair itself. Good bone health requires exploring ways to reduce stress and finding ways to improve sleep quality.

Exercise

Exercise to strengthen bones and muscles! Weight bearing and strength training exercises stress bones and stimulates new bone formation. We need to make conscious efforts to build strong!

Strengthening the supporting muscles of the spine and hip enhance stability and support of those bones.

Balance exercises are critical for preventing falls and reducing the risk of fractures.

Posture exercises help to prevent the common postural changes that can occur as a person ages and help to enhance proper body alignment.

Supplements

Supplements might be needed for additional bone building support. Bones need a constant supply of many vitamins and minerals, and deficiency of any one nutrient can adversely affect bone health. We prioritize natural diet sources but sometimes we need to help replenish a true deficiency.

Addressing and correcting individual nutrient deficiencies through appropriate supplementation will strengthen your bones and your body.

These will all be discussed with you and are only ordered in conjunction with her services. *Some insurances may cover testing and you can receive proper coding and paperwork to submit a claim on your behalf.*

SpectraCell Micronutrient testing $410 is a blood test that can be used to determine specific vitamin and mineral deficiencies within the cell where it is required for optimal health.

  • Measures 35 selected vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other essential nutrients needed for bone health and overall health

  • Many people eat well and lead a healthy lifestyle, yet vitamin and mineral deficiencies may still occur.  Why?

    • Biochemical individuality: Each of us is unique and the nutrient requirements for one person may be different from another

    • Absorption: If you do not absorb vitamins and minerals properly, you can have deficiencies.

    • Chronic Illness: Health conditions can be affected directly or indirectly by nutrient deficiencies

    • Aging: Our nutrient requirements at the age of 40, 50 and beyond are very different than what they were at the age 30

    • Lifestyle: excessive physical activity, prescription drugs, smoking, alcohol and sedentary habits all impact on nutrient demands

Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis $420 is a series of tests done on a stool sample to help uncover certain conditions affecting the digestive tract. It can effectively identify enzyme insufficiency, inflammation in the GI tract, gut flora imbalances and overgrowth of yeast or pathological bacteria.  Any one of these issues can impair digestion and absorption of essential nutrients needed for bone health.

  • Clinical indications for GI testing:

    • Burping, Gas, Bloating, Heartburn, Indigestion, Reflux

    • Constipation, Loose Stool/Diarrhea

    • Sudden Changes in Bowel Habits

    • Excessive Eating or Anorexia

    • Food cravings

FIT Food Sensitivity Testing $345

The FIT Test is a patented, multi-pathway delayed food sensitivity test. The test uses new technology that measures both IgG and Immune Complexes, the most common food-related pathways in the body. The FIT Test measures sensitivities to up to 132 different foods and additives spanning all major food groups. Food elimination based on the FIT Test results reduces symptoms a patient is experiencing.

A mobile app for patients is available on iOS and Android devices that allows patients to take their results on-the-go. Patients can view potential meal plans and cross reactivity on the app.

The FIT Test can also add Zonulin testing at an additional cost. Zonulin is a protein that is synthesized in intestinal cells and liver cells. It is a key biomarker for intestinal permeability and is the only regulator of intestinal permeability that is reversible. Zonulin is one of three ways the FIT test can diagnose a leaky gut, along with finding a sensitivity to Candida and multiple Food Sensitivities.

Bone Resorption Test (Pyrilinks-D) $105 is a urinary assessment for bone breakdown and resorption.  It measures free deoxypyridinoline (DPD) which is associated with the collagen found in bone.  It is a specific marker of bone resorption and osteoclastic activity.

  • Useful for:

    • Early osteoporosis screening

    • Tracking status after initial DXA

    • Monitoring bone therapies
